PARIS: It’s time to bid farewell to the XXXIII Olympiad Games.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris have officially ended, a magnificent send-off to the Olympics 2024, bringing to a conclusion nineteen days of breathtaking spectacle, astounding sporting achievements, and deafening applause from fans in the French capital and throughout the globe.

The magnificent closing ceremony marked the end of the Paris Games. Over ten thousand sportsmen marched past the Stade de France, situated to the north of Paris. Olympic gold medalists Nick Mead and Katie Ledecky carried the flag with pride for Team USA.

For the audience, R&B artist H.E.R. and indie band Phoenix gave amazing performances. As a sign of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Tom Cruise plunged into the stadium, took the Olympic flag, and rode off on a motorbike.

After almost two weeks of competition featuring incredible displays of fortitude and tenacity, the extravagant ceremony served as a fitting conclusion. Team USA, in particular, took home an incredible 125 medals, including 40 gold ones.

During their “redemption tour,” Simone Biles, Suni Lee, and the rest of the American women’s gymnastics team amazed the world with their skillful execution of gravity-defying routines. Ledecky became the most decorated American woman in Olympic history after winning four gold.

Track and field’s brightest talents shot to fame. Olympic gold for the U.S. women’s relay team was headed by Sha’Carri Richardson. After winning the men’s 100-meter race, Noah Lyles assumed a new title: fastest man in the world. Gabby Thomas won the 200-meter women’s competition. A big shot at 21 to 1, Cole Hocker shocked everyone in the men’s 1,500.

In the women’s fencing and women’s cycling pursuit events, Team USA won gold medals for the first time ever. American women’s soccer players and men’s basketball stars, such as NBA standout Steph Curry, solidified their imposing legacies.

Leon Marchand, a native of France, excelled in swimming, taking home four gold medals and being compared to Olympic great Michael Phelps. With a leap of 6.25 meters, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, a competitor representing Sweden, smashed pole-vaulting records.

After the gloomy epidemic years, the inspiring performances and breathtaking triumphs contributed to the Games’ global cultural phenomenon and sated people’s desire for escape.

There were plenty of spectators, and there were tons of memes on the internet. Pictures of the too-cool-for-school Turkish pistol shooter Yusuf Dikeç and “Pommel Horse Guy” Stephen Nedoroscik of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team went viral on X and other social media platforms.

NBC hired Snoop Dogg as a special correspondent, and he quickly established himself as a mainstay of the Games, whether he was learning to swim from Phelps or participating in the torch relay at the opening ceremony. Snoop said, “Mike, you make this look too easy.”

Athletes testing out the cardboard beds inside the Olympic Village, Céline Dion’s moving rendition of a classic Édith Piaf ballad during the opening ceremony, and Biles’ post-competition subtweet of former President Donald Trump, “I love my black job,” were among the viral marriage proposals that went viral online.

However, the joyous cultural event also held symbolic significance for a globe worn down by war.

a magnificent send-off to the Olympics 2024, Paris 2024 was, in many ways, a joyful comeback from the somewhat defunct “Covid bubble” that was the Olympics in Beijing in 2022 and Tokyo in 2021. The importance of standing side by side was emphasized to both TV viewers and in-person spectators.

“It’s definitely a celebration on that front, as it’s one of the biggest global events we’ve had since Covid,” Olympic visitor Arial Su, 32, a London-based Taiwanese native, told NBC News last week.

Along with providing a break from the volatile political climate in France and the West, the Games also helped to alleviate the effects of racist street violence in Britain and an unpredictable presidential election in the United States. Parisians came together, if only momentarily.

A journalist named Fanny Bonjean, 35, was taking in the scene at the La Concorde venue. “I am Parisian, and because of all the criticism beforehand I had no idea it was going to be so cool,” Bonjean remarked. “We French people can be very critical of each other, which is why it’s so cool that everyone is so happy right now and we are so proud of ourselves.”

Naturally, tensions in society and security concerns cast a shadow on the Games.

Concerns of terrorist attacks hovered over the City of Light. On the day of the inauguration ceremony, an arson assault rocked the train system, and in recent days, a hack completely upended IT systems. Law enforcement authorities, including the French police, were on high alert.

The Games also fueled cultural war hot spots both domestically and internationally, such as the controversy around the gender identification and competition eligibility of two female boxers and the fundamentalist Christian response to a drag performance at the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, French officials and Olympic organizers were plagued by problems due to the Seine River’s erratic levels of pollution. Travelers visiting Paris for business, vacation, or as journalists occasionally find the city challenging to navigate.

After the celebrations go down, France will have to deal with political unrest, which includes a split Parliament and the far-right’s ongoing rise in support of immigration until the country’s next presidential election in 2027.

The majority of people would like this portion of the Games to continue, but I’m not so convinced it will, stated Parisian engineer Hector Gore, 34. We resume our previous routine the next week. It will be intensely… stressful.

However, the Games brought back a sense of hope and pride for many spectators against the backdrop of geopolitical unrest and social unrest. The Paralympic Games begin on August 28. Olympic organizers will work hard to ensure that the positive vibe continues throughout the games.

When Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Summer Olympics in four years, that’s when it will be time to look even further ahead. Since the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002, this will be the first time the United States has hosted the Games in almost 25 years.
