Let’s dive deeper into the plot
Lindsay Lohan is about to meet her boyfriend Cam’s family for the first time. Cam’s sister Cassie is also bringing her boyfriend Logan to meet their parents. Here’s the twist: Avery and Logan were best friends growing up, dated for a long time, and had a messy breakup ten years ago, the same year Avery lost her mother. Now, they all have to spend a holiday weekend together with Cam and Cassie’s wealthy parents, Erica and Leonard.
The story unfolds like a classic romantic comedy, filled with comedic scenarios and quirky situations that keep Avery and Logan on their toes. Avery, much like characters from classic films, feels a bit out of place but always looks impeccably styled, making her seem relatable yet intriguing. Lohan brings to life a character who could easily be seen as a grown-up version of her teenage roles in films like “The Parent Trap” or “Mean Girls.”
She shares great chemistry with Ian Harding, who plays Logan. Unlike many typical rom-coms, Logan isn’t portrayed as the stereotypical handsome prince; instead, he’s a good guy who’s made some mistakes but genuinely wants to get through the weekend without causing any drama, allowing viewers to appreciate the deep friendship they once had.
The director, James Herek, adds a playful touch, often showing us the story through Avery’s eyes as she navigates the extravagant house of Cam’s parents. One particularly hilarious scene has Avery accidentally eating a bag of weed gummies right before she’s supposed to read at a children’s service, leading to some very funny moments.
Kristin Chenoweth shines as Erica, the over-the-top Southern mother who runs her household with a strict but sweet demeanor. She’s the kind of mom who bakes cookies while also playfully teasing you. The supporting cast, including Tim Meadows and Judy Reyes, doesn’t get much screen time, leaving their characters feeling a bit underdeveloped. While Katie Baker, who plays Cassie, brings some fun to her role, she too doesn’t have enough moments to stand out.
Avery’s struggle with grief over her mother’s passing is a theme throughout the story, but it doesn’t feel as developed as it could be, making the ending a bit uneven. Still, because the friendship between Avery and Logan is well portrayed, the actors manage to convey genuine emotions in the more serious moments, making it all work in the end.

Review
Overall, “Our Little Secret” delivers a delightful dose of holiday cheer, blending screwball comedy with family-friendly fun, but it unfortunately falls into some familiar rom-com clichés. The script, written by Hailey DeDominicis, could use a bit more wit and originality to elevate the film beyond its predictable plot points. Lindsay Lohan and Harding share decent chemistry, and their banter offers some genuinely funny moments. Harding, in particular, has a great comedic flair that brings to mind Seth MacFarlane, which adds a nice touch to the film.
While “Our Little Secret” may not go down as a holiday classic, it’s a light and entertaining watch. It’s the perfect film to have on in the background while wrapping presents or decorating the tree—easy to enjoy without being too challenging or dull. Lindsay Lohan delivers a charming performance, and the supporting cast brings some much-needed comedic energy. However, the movie does lean a bit heavily on tropes and its predictable storyline keeps it from reaching its full potential.
