Trump Offers to Face Off Against Harris on Fox News; She Turns Down
In their back-and-forth discussion, former president Donald Trump stated that it’s either September 4 or nothing. Kamala Harris is the presumed Democratic presidential contender.
Although Vice President Kamala Harris rejected and insisted on the debate taking place on September 10 on ABC, in accordance with a prior debate deal with President Joe Biden, Former President Donald Trump declared he was ready to take on Vice President Harris on Fox News on September 4.
In a social media post on August 3, Trump stated that their agreement for an ABC debate on September 10 was no longer valid, citing Biden’s withdrawal from the race. Rather, Trump suggested a Fox News-hosted debate versus Harris in Pennsylvania on September 4.
In response to Trump’s tweet, Harris stated in a post on the social networking site X that she will be there on September 10th, like he agreed to.”
She wrote, “I hope to see him there.”
This led to Trump issuing an ultimatum.
He replied on Truth Social, saying, “I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all.”
According to the former president, Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential contest and his endorsement of Harris as the Democratic Party contender mean that the discussion on September 4 is effectively a substitute for the originally planned event on September 10, which has been “terminated.”
Following Biden’s announcement of his resignation, Trump demanded that the September 10 debate be moved from ABC to Fox News in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said in his most recent post on August 3rd that he is suing ABC and that hosting a debate on that network would be a “conflict of interest.”
The former president also suggested that Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier moderate the debate on September 4 and that the rules be the same as those decided upon for the debate on September 10, “but with a full arena audience.”
There was no studio audience present for Trump and Biden’s CNN debate in Atlanta on June 27.
On July 25, Harris declared that she had committed to debate Trump at the debate scheduled for September 10 and charged that Trump was attempting to renege on the prior commitment.
The previous president frequently hinted that a Trump-Harris discussion might occur, but he stayed ambiguous. This led to skepticism about whether or not one would ever happen. For the first time, he has committed fully with his Aug. 3 proposal for the Sept. 4 debate; but, his subsequent ultimatum implies that a debate between the two is doubtful.
Trump addressed a reporter’s inquiry last week on a press conference on the significance of debating Harris and his willingness to participate in an ABC debate.
As for what I have agreed to, he remarked over the phone. “I want to face her and she won’t be different since they have the same policies, but I agreed to debate Joe Biden. I genuinely believe that debate is crucial to a presidential contest. I believe it’s crucial to discuss whether you’re the Republican or Democratic nominee because you truly have to.
At Joint Base Andrews, reporters asked Harris if she would be open to hosting the discussion on Fox News rather than ABC, but she turned away before responding.
Trump stated he could “make a case for not doing it” in an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, but he also stated he would “probably” end up debating Harris.
Although Trump expressed his desire to participate in the discussion, he said that it wasn’t absolutely necessary because both he and Harris’ ideas are well-known.
“Yes, I will definitely engage in debate,” he said.
After voting ends on August 5, Harris will formally become the party’s nominee, as announced by Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Jaime Harrison on August 2, expressing his pride. Harris received more than a majority of the votes cast by all Democratic convention delegates.
In a statement on X, Harris said, “I am so honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.” “Next week, I will formally accept the nomination.”
This study was made possible by Chase Smith. The response of Harris to Trump’s suggestion for a debate and the ex-president’s ultimatum are now included in this piece.
