Paris, Saint-Denis — American artistic swimmers haven’t taken home an Olympic medal in team competition in 20 years. US artistic swimmers headed for a silver medal. They were led by the U.S. 1996 team, who took home the gold in Atlanta during the event’s Olympic debut, as they advanced to silver on Wednesday night.

With her silver medal around her neck, two-time Olympian Anita Alvarez, 27, remarked, “We’ve had so much support from the past Olympic teams throughout this journey.” “The letters we’re reading are from the ’96 squad.
We had a special team day yesterday for the free team, and today we had (an acrobatic) team day (letter). And I believe we’ve had them ever since we got here. In fact, someone composed one (for the opening ceremony). Thus, it’s been truly unique.
China won the gold medal with a score of 996.1389. Team USA came in second with a score of 914.3421 on the last day of the team competition with the acrobatic act. Spain scored 900.7319 to take home the bronze.
The United States’ last medal in the team competition before Paris was a bronze from the 2004 Athens Games. The World Aquatic Championships in Doha, Qatar, in February will serve as the Americans’ first Olympic team since 2008.
About the team competition, 25-year-old Jacklyn Luu, an Olympic first-timer, stated, “We didn’t have an Olympic team for a whole decade.” It thus means a great deal to be able to influence the next generation in that way.
“Recalling my childhood, I realize that future generations of young boys and girls will witness this swim routine and be so motivated by our creation and actions that they will want to participate in synchro and simply enjoy.”
“As a team, we kind of take a moment to really appreciate everything and consider how this historic moment for our team will affect future teams.”
The mood at the Olympic Aquatics
The mood at the Olympic Aquatics Centre was lively and festive throughout the acrobatic routine competition on Wednesday. Of course, it helped when teams used a wide range of musical selections for their routines, such as Snoop Dogg, The Lion King soundtrack, Eminem twice, and the can-can, which enthralled the crowd.
Team USA’s music included a sorceresses theme and was composed of “like 100 different cuts,” according to Alvarez. The coach, Andrea Fuentes, who is also a three-time Olympian, was the one who blended them together. The music had components such as percussion patterns for a certain beat and “random owl noises.” Wednesday’s performance followed a viral routine that was reminiscent of Michael Jackson, complete with upside-down moonwalking.
The team free routine, the team acrobatic routine, and the team technical routine comprise the three routines in the team competition. The final rankings were calculated by adding the points from all three performances, which were performed on Wednesday night after the acrobatic routine.
Team USA finished Monday’s team technical routine rated fourth (282.7567), behind Japan, China, and Spain. However, the Americans shocked everyone on Tuesday by placing second (360.2688) behind China in the team free routine, putting them in the running for their first Olympic medal in twenty years.
Alvarez remarked, “Today felt really good.” We were heading into this in second position, and that could have easily been lost if we missed one lift or anything else, so it could have been hectic and insane. I believe this squad has a really positive outlook.
“Our coaches have ingrained in us such a positive outlook on everything; instead of dwelling on the potential consequences of failing and receiving a basic mark, they say, let’s concentrate on what we can truly accomplish if we receive full credit and all of these.”
